This is another iconic high-rise hotel which has been sitting proudly at the southern end of Park Lane for many years. In its basement you’ll find Trader Vics, if you’re into the Hawaiian Tropic Cocktail Bar Vibe.

But if it’s views you’re after, head to the lift and the 28th floor where you’ll find Galvin at the Windows – a top class bar and restaurant. The name kind of gives it away – those ‘Windows’ are floor to ceiling ones and just made for gazing out of to admire the stunning views over Hyde Park, Green Park, Buckingham Palace and the whole damn city. That’s why Galvin at the Window is one of our best views London.

As you’d expect the décor is sophisticated and cool, with lots of leather and marble on show. There are lots of exquisite and exciting cocktails to try, a long whisky menu and delicious bar snacks if you’re not heading into the next door restaurant. It can get busy with young, loud braying types of an evening, so if you really want to admire the view, arrive early and grab a window seat.

Well, it’s the tallest building in London. So where else would you expect to find some of the greatest views in town? The Oblix bar is right up there on the 32nd floor of the Shard- and right up there when it comes to a stunning visual spectacle that encompasses a vast swathe of London from Canary Wharf to the West End. Thats what makes Oblix Bar at the Shard one of our best views London.

Despite the views the 32nd floor is only half way up the building! To get higher, you might want to pay your money to take in the viewing platform towards the peak.

This luxuriant, low lit, lounge bar is the brainchild of Rainer Becker, former scion of Zuma and sits in conjunction with the equally ambitious Oblix Restaurant. There’s a minimalist, American theme going on here. Hints of 1920s glamour are enhanced by the live music that adds to the atmosphere in the evening. Cocktails are, as you would expect, good and expensive. Tables with the best views can – and are – booked in advance, which means that sometimes those amazing views are a little obscured. There’s a comprehensive food menu if you’re feeling peckish, but not quite up to the full on restaurant experience (which probably will be fully booked anyway).

If you want to get even higher – and we’re talking the 52 floor – The Shangri-la Hotel’s Gong Bar includes both a champagne Bar and a cocktail bar – plus some even steeper prices too!

Drink in some culture, then down some more drinks whilst taking in one of the most beautiful views in London…

Now there are some bars that are notable because their very altitude gives them commanding views over this great city. And then there are bars that are simply breathtaking because of what you are looking at.

The Tate Modern bar on the 7th floor of The Tate Modern Art Gallery falls firmly into the second category. Situated right on the Southbank of the Thames it would be great just to sit here (or stand, as it does get fairly busy) and watch the river. You could even admire the famous wobbly bridge – more correctly entitled the Millenium Footbridge – especially when it’s lit up at night.

But let’s face, the view is dominated by the majesty of St Paul’s Cathedral sitting atop Ludgate Hill on the opposite bank. And if that doesn’t stir something in you, then you probably haven’t had enough drinks yet.
