Kettners Champagne Bar
Nothing says romance like champagne… unless it’s roses… or a diamond, set in a ring and presented on one knee to a soon to be fiancé.
If it’s the champagne option you’re after then there’s no better place to go on a romantic date than the Champagne Bar at Kettner’s. This Soho institution has been welcoming a wealth of colourful characters from Oscar Wilde to Agatha Christie since it first opened its glamorous doors back in 1867.
In the bar the décor is divinely dreamy and fabulously French in feel, with marvelously mismatched chairs, leather sofas, velvet cushions, chic chandeliers and flickering candlelight. There are also comfy, bookable nooks decked out opulently with heavy velvet drapes, gilt mirrors and the kind of low lighting that positively encourages louche behavior.
And, of course there’s the champagne… over 100 varieties, many from small family growers. The house champagne is Laurent Perrier, and every month there is a featured champagne. There’s even a selection of English ‘fizz’ on offer… just remember you can’t call it Champagne!
If you tire of champagne, there are always some ravishing cocktails to choose from. And, if you want to follow your drinks with dinner there’s a classic French brasserie to satisfy your appetite for food, as well as romance.
